Terms of Service

Last updated: 12 June 2026

1. Acceptance

By using TokyoHelp, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement.

3. What TokyoHelp is

TokyoHelp is a platform that helps neighbours find and offer informal, voluntary help. We are not a party to any arrangement you make, and we are not an employment, staffing, or job-placement service. Any help arranged is between users.

4. Free during MVP

The service is currently free. TokyoHelp is for mutual aid, not paid labour; arranging paid work that requires a licence under Japanese law is not permitted.

5. Your conduct

  • Be honest and respectful.
  • No illegal activity, fraud, scams, or “闇バイト”-style schemes.
  • No harassment, hate, or sharing others' private information.
  • Don't post others' content or impersonate anyone.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. You grant TokyoHelp permission to display, store, and automatically translate your posts and messages so the service can work.

7. No warranty

TokyoHelp is provided “as is.” We don't verify users beyond optional checks, and we can't guarantee any outcome. Use your judgement and follow our safety guidance.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, and except where the loss is caused by our own wilful misconduct or gross negligence, TokyoHelp is not liable for interactions between users or for any loss arising from use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law.

9. Objectionable content, reports & enforcement

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users: no harassment, hate, sexual content, scams, or other abuse. We may remove content and suspend or permanently ban accounts that break these terms or put others at risk.

You can report any post, message, or profile in the app, and block any user. We review reports and act promptly. Anyone — including people who don't use TokyoHelp — can request removal of content by emailing hello@tokyohelp.app.

11. Giving things away

The Free stuff board is for giving items away at no charge, between users. Nothing may be sold, priced, swapped or bartered there, and no payment of any kind may be arranged through it.

TokyoHelp is not a party to any handover, does not inspect, store, transport or verify any item, and gives no warranty about condition, safety, ownership or fitness for any purpose. The arrangement is entirely between the two users.

Do not list: medicine or prescription drugs; alcohol or tobacco; knives or weapons; SIM cards; bank or credit cards; residence cards, passports or other identity documents; anything counterfeit, recalled, stolen or that you do not own; anything whose transfer requires a licence under Japanese law.

Never pay, deposit or transfer money for a listing here. If someone asks you to, stop and report the listing.

Meet in a public place, bring someone if you can, and stop if anything feels wrong. You are meeting a stranger.

10. Governing law & changes

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. We may update them; we'll change the date above when we do.
